To understand how movies of Bud Spencer and Terence Hill began, a little biography about them is important. Bud Spencer (Carlo Pedersoli) was born on 31st October 1929, in SantaLucia. He got married in 1960 and had three children between 1961 and 1972. From 1947 to 1949, Spencer worked at the Italian consulate in Recife, Brazil. He learned fluent Portuguese during his tenure at the consulate. Spencer made a change to his screen name in 1967 in order to pay homage to his favorite beer, Budweiser, as well as Spencer Tracy. His acting career started in 1951 where he played the role of a Praetorian guard in the movie Quo Vadis that was done in Italy. Until the late1960s, his movie career was classified as minor league where he met Terence Hill with whom created a good number of movies.
Terence Hill (Mario Girotti) was born on 29th March 1939, in Venice, Italy. He lived as a child in Lommatzsch, which was a small town in Germany, from 1943 to 1945. He escaped unhurt the Dresden Bombing of World War II and was discovered by filmmaker Dino Risi in 1951. In 1964, Terence returned to Germany for some different types of films. In 1967, he went back to Italy where he made a change to his name and also starred in the film “God Forgives…..I Don’t’. The following years made up a major part of his career as he starred in a good number of western and action movies together with his longtime friend and colleague, Bud Spencer.
Bud and Terence were noted for their comedy based movies. These movies of Bud Spencer and Terence Hill were not only successful abroad, but also in Italy. Together, they made a substantial number of films including Italian Westerns. A good number of the movies have different titles depending on the distributor and country. Their most popular film is the western ‘They Call Me Trinity” in 1971 and the sequel ‘Trinity Is Still My name’, 1972. The pair was seen to be a good combination by various directors, and most of the films they made together were a success. Some of the films that they made together and were successful are shown below.
The most recent film they made is ‘Troublemakers’ which was done in 1994. In this film, Terence acts as Travis and Bud acts as Moses. They are two estranged brothers who are thinking about re-teaming. Moses divides his time between rounding up outlaw gangs and raising a large clan. Travis on the other hand keeps risking his life freeing desperados.
“Miami Supercops’ is another film which is mainly action-comedy based and was shot in 1985. The plot is basically about $20 million which was stolen from a Detroit bank. There were three robbers in the incident of which one was caught, another died and the third disappeared. The robber who was caught was released seven years later only to be found dead the next day. FBI agents Steve Forest and Doug Bennet (Terence and Bud) are called in to investigate the case and find out where the third robber, with $20 million, is hiding. These are just two of the latest films and there are many older movies of Bud Spencer and Terence Hill.
